# Create and verify a lead

Before creating a lead, search for the person using your organization's process. Compare identity details before deciding that a match is the same person. A matching name alone is not enough. Jordan Training is our fictitious example. The goal is to create a usable lead, then verify that the record was saved in the correct context.

Choose Create New Lead in the L M A navigation. Select the correct lead source, then enter the person’s name and available contact details. Do not invent information that the person has not provided. Our training example uses a non-deliverable email address and no telephone number. Communication preferences must reflect the person’s actual choice; the example is opted out of texting.

Select Update Lead Details. After saving, verify the name and the new record identifier. Also review phase, agency and assignment. In this example, starting from the All agency context created an Import Lead with no agency assigned. We corrected the agency and phase through the Admin tab. Changing the agency also applied its fee settings. Review those changes; do not treat an agency change as a cosmetic edit.

Reopen Lead Info and check the saved identity, agency and phase. Confirm assignment and the next follow-up according to your team's process. A successful save does not mean the lead is fully qualified. Remember three checks: the person, the organization, and the next action. If a value disappears after reopening, resolve the save problem before continuing. Use the chapters to revisit any step.
