# Find system configuration and review its scope

System Management is the starting point for configuration work. Open it from the Common section of the navigation. The current page groups settings by purpose: organization and access, finance, documents, lead management, communications, system administration, and creditors. In this lesson, you will locate a package and identify the scope of the settings before making a change.

Use Search System Management to narrow the cards. Search for package. The results lead to the package and document configuration area. Read the card description before opening it: a package can contain an ordered set of printed document templates, an ordered set of Client Portal phases, or both. Choosing the correct configuration object is the first step toward a controlled change.

Open Packages, then select the package identifier you intend to inspect. Review its name, active status, paperwork type, validation and task behavior. Check agency and company restrictions as well. A blank scope field may make a package available broadly. Do not infer that an empty list disables access. Read the help next to the field and verify the affected organizations.

Before editing, identify the intended result and how you will test it. Review the dependent phases, templates and tasks. An administrator should verify the resulting paperwork and follow-up behavior using the organization's test process. For this investigation, remember three things: the exact configuration object, who can use it, and what depends on it. You can complete this review without changing configuration.
